🧠 Why Connect Contact Form 7 to ActiveCampaign?
Contact Form 7 (CF7) is one of the most lightweight and customizable form builders for WordPress. However, it doesn’t natively connect to CRMs like ActiveCampaign, so you need a simple bridge.
Once connected, you can:
- Automatically add leads from your form submissions to your ActiveCampaign lists.
- Tag leads based on form type or interest.
- Trigger automated email sequences right after someone submits.
- Eliminate manual data entry.
It’s one of those “set it once, save hours every week” setups.
⚙️ Step 1: Install the Required Plugins
You’ll need the following:
- Contact Form 7 (if you haven’t installed it yet)
- Go to Plugins → Add New → search for “Contact Form 7” → install and activate.
- Go to Plugins → Add New → search for “Contact Form 7” → install and activate.
- ActiveCampaign for WordPress
- This is the official plugin that connects your site with your ActiveCampaign account.
- Install it the same way, then activate it.

- (Optional but recommended)CF7 to API or CF7 ActiveCampaign Integration plugin

🔑 Step 2: Get Your ActiveCampaign API URL and Key
- Log in to your ActiveCampaign dashboard.
- Go to Settings → Developer.
- Copy your API URL and API Key.
You’ll need these to authenticate your WordPress site.
💡 Pro Tip: Store these credentials somewhere safe. They act like passwords for API connections.
🔌 Step 3: Connect WordPress with ActiveCampaign
In your WordPress dashboard:
- Go to Settings → ActiveCampaign.
- Paste your API URL and API Key.
- Click Connect.
If everything’s correct, you’ll see a success message, and your site is now connected to your ActiveCampaign account.
🧾 Step 4: Create or Edit Your Contact Form 7 Form
- Go to Contact → Contact Forms.
- Either edit an existing form or click Add New.
- Create your fields (e.g., name, email, message).
Example CF7 form code:
[text* your-name placeholder “Your Name”]
[email* your-email placeholder “Your Email”]
[textarea your-message placeholder “Your Message”]
[submit “Send”]
🪄 Step 5: Map Your Form Fields to ActiveCampaign
If you’re using the “CF7 to API” or “ActiveCampaign Integration” plugin:
- Go to your form’s Integration tab.
- Choose ActiveCampaign as the destination.
- Select your ActiveCampaign List where new contacts should go.
- Map the fields:
- CF7 “your-name” → ActiveCampaign “Full Name”
- CF7 “your-email” → ActiveCampaign “Email”
- Add any custom fields you need
- CF7 “your-name” → ActiveCampaign “Full Name”
💡 Tip: Use tags like “Website Lead” or “Contact Page” so you can trigger automation rules inside ActiveCampaign.
🧪 Step 6: Test the Integration
- Go to your live contact form page.
- Submit a test entry.
- Log in to your ActiveCampaign account and check your contacts list.
If everything’s working, you should see the new contact appear, complete with the correct tag and list assignment.
🚀 Step 7: (Optional) Automate with ActiveCampaign Workflows
Now that your WordPress forms feed into ActiveCampaign, make the most out of it!
Here are a few ideas:
- Send a thank-you email automatically.
- Tag contacts based on interest (“Web Design Inquiry,” “Support Request,” etc.).
- Trigger your sales pipeline or follow-up automations instantly.
This is where the magic happens. Automation saves time and keeps your customer experience consistent.
🧠 Common Issues & Fixes
| Issue | Fix |
| Contacts not appearing in ActiveCampaign | Double-check your API key and list mapping |
| Emails not triggering | Make sure automations are set to trigger “when tag is added” |
| Form submission fails | Check if your site uses a caching or security plugin that blocks external API calls |
